5 Tips to Improve Tooth Sensitivity

Stop warming your ice cream and removing ice from beverages. Tooth sensitivity is preventable! Your tooth enamel is the outer layer of your tooth which protects it from decay. Overtime, different foods, drinks, and normal chewing wear down the enamel. Tooth enamel cannot be replaced. It can, however, be protected with these 5 tips!

Avoid coffee.

Morning routines are about to change. If you enjoy drinking coffee, you may want to reconsider. Coffee along with added sugar causes enamel erosion. Avoid coffee and choose healthier alternatives for more energy such as exercising and better sleeping habits. You’ll be surprised at how well you can function without the caffeine.

Less juice, please.

Acidic juices like orange, pineapple, lemon, and grapefruit are not good to drink often. Also, aside from the acid, added sugar also erodes the enamel. Too much acidic drinks can lead to tooth decay. Protect your teeth by drinking less acidic beverages. Keep in mind that eating fruit is better for your teeth because it has no added sugar or other harmful ingredients that are typically found in juices.

Stick to water.

Gym enthusiasts may want to follow this tip closer. Drinking sport and energy drinks is bad for your teeth. Many people choose drinks like Gatorade and Red Bull for the electrolytes and caffeine but the added sugar and acid are not good for teeth. Instead, hydrate with water and improve your sleeping habits.

Decrease wine consumption.

Wine, red or white, is very acidic and can damage your tooth enamel. Avid drinkers should limit their wine consumption and perhaps choose to drink it for special occasions only. Some people enjoy wine as part of their daily relaxation routine. However, choosing healthier relaxation techniques, like yoga and cardio, will help you unwind and maintain stronger tooth enamel.

Hold the ketchup.

Tomatoes in general are high in acid. This includes ketchup, tomato paste, and tomato sauce. The citric acid found in tomatoes is known to erode the teeth overtime. Therefore, consume tomatoes, paste, and sauce moderately. If you can avoid it all together, even better.

All is not lost.

Eating healthier choices is best but you don’t have to go cold turkey. Follow your favorite meals and beverages with water to wash away the acids. Chew sugar-free gum to produce more saliva and allow your mouth to flush the acids naturally. Make an honest attempt to eat and drink less acidic foods and beverages. Also, you can always brush your teeth afterwards. Just be sure to wait at least an hour to avoid damaging the enamel.
