So… what exactly is the social etiquette for flossing?
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends flossing at least once a day to help remove plaque from the areas between your teeth which your toothbrush may not be able to reach. Plaque which is not removed by brushing can eventually harden, cause cavities and gum disease. This is great information to have but when is the best time to floss?
The answer is, anytime.
You need to ‘floss’ at least once a day. The time of day is irrelevant. Everyone has different eating habits. Everyone has a different life schedule. It does not matter when or where you floss. Just floss.
On a socially correct note, no one wants to see you floss. Nor do they want to see the remnants of your floss efforts. Find a secluded place to floss, like a bathroom or your bedroom. Then properly dispose of the floss in the nearest trash receptacle.
As always, if you have questions or require additional information about your oral hygiene, please contact your dental provider.
Happy Flossing.
